Since its inception, Whatsapp has grown rapidly to become the most popular Instant Messaging App Worldwide. Over the years the company has gone through a lot of changes, becoming Facebook’s own in 2014, adding end-to-end encryption to communications on the App, adding a status section for users to share stories and more recently, announced that it would soon be showing ads on the App.
In addition to this changes, recent reports has it that Whatsapp will now allow users to privately reply a chat in a chat group. This feature is currently available on the beta version 2.18.335 of the App for its beta testers. This feature will make it possible to chat privately with a group participant right there in the group without the whole group seeing your messages.
Here is a step by step guide on how to use the ‘Reply privately’ feature
Note: This feature is only available for Whatsapp Beta users and will soon be made available on all others. So to use the feature you have to be a beta tester.
- Navigate to any Whatsapp group, Long press on the message you want to privately reply to
- Tap on the Three dots at the top right corner and select reply Privately
- Your message will be received only by that contact in the group
The recent update to the beta version has however been reported to have some sort of bug in it that make it crash whenever you try to delete a media from the chat. While it is unclear when the feature will be rolled out to other users, it is expected to be soon, when the feature is made more stable.
