At about 00:20 GMT on Tuesday (7:21 p.m. ET on Monday), downdetector.com, a website that monitors outages reported issues with Instagram as users around the world could not use the facebook’s photo sharing platform. The reported cases quickly numbered into thousands of affected users (up to 32,000). Both the app and the website were affected, with website reporting a “5xx server error”

Most of the issues with the service were reported in the United States and the UK. Users also complained about the site in Australia and New Zealand.

A spokesman for Instagram said they were aware of an issue causing Instagram to be down for some users, and were working quickly to fix it.

The actual numbers of users affected by this issue were not specified. However, many took to other social media sites such as Twitter (#instagramdown) to express their frustration.

The issue have since been fixed and both the app and website are back online.
